How ready is your exit from the UK?

Leaving the UK does not end your UK tax life. Answer ten plain questions and we will check them against the rules that follow a leaver: the Statutory Residence Test, split-year treatment, the five-year rule on gains and dividends, the inheritance tax tail, your company, property and pension.

Nothing is stored unless you ask for your result by email, and even then only your score and band. Rules from the Latitax guide to leaving the UK, reviewed 2026-09-29, each with its official source.

  1. 1When are you leaving the UK?
  2. 2How many days do you expect to be in the UK in your first full tax year abroad?

A day counts if you are in the UK at midnight. Tax years run 6 April to 5 April.

  3. 3Will you keep a UK home that is available to you?

Owned or rented, even if empty. Let on a long lease to someone else counts as not available.

  4. 4What will your work look like after you leave?
  5. 5In how many of the last 20 tax years were you UK resident?
  6. 6Your household
  7. 7Do you own a UK company?
  8. 8Could you come back to live in the UK within five years?
  9. 9Within six months of leaving, will you be tax resident in one new country?
  10. 10Do any of these apply to you?

Tick all that apply, or none.

Latitax research, not tax or legal advice. The check reads your answers against published HMRC rules in a fixed order and flags what may apply; it cannot see the facts only you and your adviser know, and it does not decide your residence. Figures marked unverified could not be confirmed on a primary source. Confirm every step with a qualified UK adviser before you act.
